TREES ARE LIFE
20 May 2024
Life on planet earth would be impossible without trees. All too often we forget this fact, failing to let our eyes linger and offer up a heartfelt thanks to the woodlands large and small, the gardens that populate our chaotic cities, and the vast areas of untouched nature that produce oxygen for the rest of the earth's living beings.
Trees provide oxygen and, through the process of photosynthesis, capture carbon dioxide, contributing to keeping the air clean and removing numerous pollutants from the atmosphere.
A tree is a living being and, as such, it is "born", it "grows", and it "reproduces", thus participating in our environment's normal processes.
In cities they serve as useful allies against heat and pollution and, when planted near riverbanks, their roots slow natural soil erosion.
As well as being critical to our survival, trees also hold symbolic and philosophical significance. The oak is associated with wisdom, the cypress with solemnity, the fir is symbolic of Christmas, the apple tree of the origins of life, while the olive tree has come to symbolise peace.
Trees are silent listeners and memory bearers; tearing down a tree means eradicating a piece of our history forever.
Simonato firmly believes in everything trees represent and, as such, has always been committed to working towards their preservation. It has planted trees, including larch and pine, in the Panarotta woodlands devastated by Storm Vaia, and in Due Carrare (PD) where mayor Davide Moro and his administration designated two large areas (one spanning approximately 3,000 m2, the other approximately 22,000 m2) for the development of a woodland ecosystem. Simonato supplied stakes and peat and donated approximately 1,500 plants including maple, ash, and oak, which will be planted twice a year.
