06 May 2019
Following the great success achieved in recent years, Simonato presented its organic aromatic herbs at the MacFrut 2019 fair. This large, important fair – a point of reference for professionals working in the fruit and vegetable sector in Italy and Europe – took place in Rimini from 8 to 10 May, with around 1,100 exhibitors and over 1,500 buyers invited from across the world.
MacFrut represents the entire supply chain, covering 11 sectors and making this a unique event among fairs: Seeds, plant & nursery innovation, production technologies, production, business & distribution, machinery & technologies, materials & packaging, fifth range (pre-cooked, not frozen) products, dried fruit & nuts, logistics, services.
The fair focused on technology and innovation, with three areas in the exhibition pavilions dedicated to presenting system innovations. During the show, all of the best innovations in the fruit and vegetable sector were given "Macfrut Innovation Award" medals. The prestigious prizes were awarded by a committee established by the L'Informatore Agrario [Agrarian Informer] journal with the support of Cesena Fiera management to select companies doing excellent work in the areas of environmental sustainability, economic sustainability and improving product quality and security.
Simonato achieved a major goal by entering the competition with its new biodegradable and recyclable packaging: BioKepos3. This innovation saw Simonato win the "packaging and packaging materials" category, being awarded a silver medal.
Simonato has been growing aromatic herbs since 1997 in accordance with strict organic growing standards, and has always been very conscious of environmental issues.
The Biokepos3 packaging project is its innovative response to the demands of consumers and large-scale retailers and represents an important step towards a sustainable future. It is made up of 3 elements:
-
a plant-based fibre pot that can be planted into a larger pot or in the garden after use;
-
a clear bag made from corn starch that can be disposed of in the household compost bin
-
an information sheet on food wrapping paper that can be recycled with the paper waste.
BioKepos is the result of significant research efforts that led to the creation of packaging that is absolutely innovative within Italy and Europe. All parts of this new packaging are certified, guaranteeing customers the highest quality.
